Sunday 24th May 2026
Four teams from Preston Lodge High School took on the Edinburgh Marathon Festival relay on Sunday 24 May.The biggest challenge on the day wasn't the minimal training that some team members had put in, but the heat! However, all teams finished with competitive times. There were four teams and some friendly rivalries on the legs, but it wasn't about competition. The runners were raising funds for the Preston Lodge Learning Foundation and specifically helping to fund the Breakfast Cafe at the school, which aims to fuel students' learning. The donations received already will see breakfast provided well into the new session and we would like to thank those who donated. So far we have raised an amazing £1,420! The fundraising page is still open for those who are able to donate. The community spirit was buzzing along the route, and it gave us a real boost to see some of our students volunteering at the water stations along the way, they are the real heroes! And of course, student runners Fern and Emily who completed team four and performed fantastically, with big smiles on their faces.Team one: Susan Malamos, Gordon Kidd, Craig Dorward, Emma Whittingham - 04:10:43, 165/424Team two: Matthew Gibbons, Roddy Caulin, Alec Jessop, Sally Miller - 03:38:22, 44/424Team three: Victor Neves da Silva, Mhairi Graham, Rita Budavari, Rory Ewing (OCS) - 04:04:25, 129/424Team four: Hannah Rose, Fern Blackie-Smith (student), Kathryn White, Emily Fairfull (student) - 04:15:52, 192/424The impressive student splits:Fern Blackie-Smith: 5.5 miles (8.8km), 00:44:14Emily Fairfull: 4.4 miles (7.1km), 00:36:48The runners would like to thank the Preston Lodge Learning Foundation for covering the cost of team entries.
